Abstract: František Hrušovský held many positions in society between 1939 and 1945. He was involved not only in journalism, social affairs, but also engaged in politics. He became a member of the Slovak Autonomous Assembly, later transformed into the Assembly of the Slovak Republic. He actively participated in its deliberations, most often as a rapporteur for the committees to which he was appointed. We have thirteen speeches recorded from this period. He also continued to act as a journalist, focusing his attention primarily on issues of education and culture. He also published in newspapers, but he did not neglect professional contributions, especially his work Slovak History. In 1945, like many other political representatives of the People’s Party regime, he emigrated with his family abroad. In 1948, a retributive trial took place, in which he was tried for his activities in the years 1939-1945. Eventually, also thanks to the testimonies, he was not sentenced to the proposed death penalty, but (in absence) to loss of liberty for ten years and other lenient sentences. In the period of the first Slovak Republic, Hrušovský, despite his efforts, did not shy away from some controversial statements as part of the regime, and fully supported the non‑democratic regime.
