Abstract: The study deals with one of the most important parts of Slovak older history in the work by Richard Marsina, who devoted quite a lot of space to the subject of Cyril and Methodius in his works, and attributed the subject a fundamental importance. The text provides an overview and a short characterization of his works. It deals only with his scientific works, the methodology of examining the sources and their credibility. According to Marsina, the Byzantine mission under the leadership of the brothers Constantine and Methodius (863) was primarily a diplomatic attempt to ecclesiastically and politically free Rastislav’s empire from East Franconian influence, which successfully ended by the creation of an independent ecclesiastical province in 880. Its evangelistic impact (Christianization) was great, although short-lived. As a document examiner, he strictly relied on sources in his research tasks. The sources were mainly all primary ones and, most significantly, of the secondary sources he dealt with diplomatic and narrative sources. The study attempts to capture Marsina’s interpretation of this part of history, especially the work of Archbishop Methodius, his relationship to Svätopluk, the Old Church Slavonic translations, and the continuity of the Cyrillo-Methodian mission in the territory of Slovakia.
