Abstract: In this article, we examine the key events in the life of Slovak writer Božena Slančíková Timrava in the context of individual historical periods. We trace the connection between her life and everyday reality in a Novohrad village which is reflected in the content of the author’ s literary works. On this basis, we point out how Timrava’s personality was influenced by certain contemporary events, with an emphasis on her psychological analysis of her literary heroes. In evaluating contemporary events, we emphasize in particular Timrava’s critical view of people’s actions in the context of a given society. In particular, the establishment of a literary work in new socio‑political conditions with an emphasis on the perception of the situation before and after the creation of the Czecho‑Slovak Republic.
