Abstract: The study deals with Hrušovský’s life and work in terms of his work as a secondary school teacher and head teacher at the grammar school in Kláštor pod Znievom. He held these two closely related positions during the existence of both the interwar Czechoslovak and later Slovak states. On the one hand, through the life story of František Hrušovský, we can penetrate into the key phenomena of the time, including the political, scientific and educational spheres, and the areas connected with the daily life of students in the regional dimension. In the character of František Hrušovský, macro- and micro‑histories intertwine with respect to the peculiarities of the historical development of the Slovak nation in the transformations of time. In addition, the processing of the topic of František Hrušovský’s pedagogical activity at the grammar school of Kláštor pod Znievom takes into account both the external and internal aspects of the biography. In both cases, the sources of Hrušovký’s motivation towards the work of a secondary school teacher, his core educational goals, work activities, and plans for the future are examined in the first place; as well as understanding the meaning of teaching national history, the connection between pedagogical and scientific activities, and the concept of his philosophy of education.
