Abstract: Matthias Bel (1684–1749), a native of Očová in central Slovakia, one of the greatest and last polymaths of Hungary published the monumental work Notitia Hungariae novae (Historical Geographical Knowledge of the Contemporary Hungary). This project is interesting from several perspectives, whether viewed historically, ethnographically, culturally, and socially, or geographically. Matthias Bel’s great contribution lies in the fact he used copies of the documents that have not been preserved up to this day. The paper presents Matthias Bel’s text from the work about the Bratislava County and Matthias Corvinus and his wife Beatrice of Naples (a.k.a. Aragon) in relation to Bratislava, in Latin original and translated into Slovak. The era of King Matthias Corvinus (1458–1490) is characterized by the overall stabilization of Hungary, embracing the Italian Renaissance and humanism. Bratislava became a frequently visited place of residence for the king, who led his military campaigns both to Bohemia and Austria from there. Corvinusʼ reforms had a major impact on the daily lives of the population. The Royal Palace became a place of formation of a new Renaissance lifestyle and court etiquette.
