Abstract: The paper is devoted to the history of Matica Slovenská Local Branch Office in Trnava in the period of the interwar Czechoslovak Republic. The formation of Matica Slovenská in Trnava started shortly after the foundation of Czechoslovakia. At that time, all major national events were organized by the association known as Slovenská národná jednota (the Slovak National Unity), the predecessor of Matica Slovenská Local Branch Office in Trnava, formed by administrative renaming in 1923. Over time, under the leadership of Ferko Urbánek, Pavel Žiška, Ján Trančík and other Chairmen or Secretaries in a difficult period of the first Czechoslovak Republic, Matica association members of Trnava have left a noteworthy mark in the cultural, social and political spheres of Trnava history. The study deals with how Matica Slovenská Local Branch Office in Trnava became not only a mover but also a direct participant and initiator of many historical events and a promoter of changes in Trnava region. Building of the monument to Milan Rastislav Štefánik, the organization of hundreds of cultural, social, and other events, as well as efforts to expand the Matica life and activities among the Trnava population through the now non-existent secretariat of Matica, have been particularly significant up to this day.
